From: John Clarke, Borrage Lane, Ripon.
IN reply to your letters in last week’s Gazette, I was appalled and disgusted to read that the traffic problems caused by the closure of Coltsgate Hill has now turned into a vendetta against the residents of Borrage Lane.

The lane in itself is a s
ingle track road with no footpaths on the river side and a small footpath on the other side, not wide enough to take wheelchairs. On a blind corner we have Anchor House for the elderly and disabled and many of the houses and bungalows have retired elderly people, living on their own. They have already gone through the trauma and stressful experience of being flooded out twice since 2000 and for the shortsighted person that wants to teach these elderly and disabled people a lesson that they will never forget is unforgivable. No wonder they haven’t got the guts to have their names and addresses printed. I am also disgusted with the Ripon Gazette for printing such accusations, turning citizen against citizen, especially when it has nothing to do with the traffic problems.

I must remind you that in both floods, firemen risked their lives to rescue the elderly people down the lane and carried them to safety and for these callous people on Harrogate Road to want to teach these elderly people a lesson that they will never forget is disgusting. Whatever happened to Yorkshire hospitality, supposed to be the best in the country?
