HEAVY rain kept emergency services busy over the weekend with many roads, towns and villages affected by flooding.
In Colburn near Catterick emergency services worked to clear floodwater which was disrupting the electricity supply and near Dalton a man was rescued from his car after being caught in flood water.

Middleham and Catterick were also affected as more than two inches of rain fell during Friday night and in Grantley, firefighters worked to pump flood water from the flooded cellar of the village hall.

Newby Hall near Ripon was forced to close its adventure play park and miniature railway on Saturday and Sunday after the River Ure burst its banks and flooded the grounds of the historic house.

On the roads a motorcyclist lost his life on Friday afternoon. The 42-year-old Sheffield man died after his Kawasaki motorcycle hit a tree branch on the A66 in the road near Scotch Corner.

After a dry Monday, more rain was expected to hit the county throughout the week.
