Athletics: Javelin star George Davies wins silver medal at Commonwealth Youth Games
Davies, from Knaresborough, launched his 700gram javelin out to 68.23metres to finish the international competition in second place behind a competitor from India.
The distance was three metres short of the City of York athlete’s lifetime best of 71.26m, which he set when winning the England U20 Championships in May.

“It’s not just the taking part, he’s there for the life-changing experience and he’s already said it has inspired him to try and achieve great things.
“It’s now something he can build on before hopefully qualifying for the European Juniors next year.”
Meanwhile, Harrogate middle distance athlete George Mills just missed out on a medal in the 800m final as he finished fifth in 1.50.89.
The 17-year-old clocked 1.52.24 to qualify second in his heat before running 0.3sec outside of his lifetime best in the final on Wednesday.
